This seminar, Pets in the Therapy Space on 22 November, will focus on the often discounted aspect of a child’s (or adult’s) significant attachment relationship to an animal.
Michelle Hyams-Ssekasi works with children, young people and adults. She feels that, when in the therapy space, we often overlook the importance of a child or adult’s relationship with their pets. Furthermore, she has worked alongside many clients who have experienced developmental trauma. Their pet offered unconditional love which at time provided reassurance and care at a time when they could not rely on the adults in their lives.
Pets in the Therapy Space will explore our relationships with pets. In addition, we will touch on the importance of using pets in the therapy space. We will look at whether this could be a help or a barrier to the therapeutic process.
Michelle will draw on the work of Jung and Freud to illustrate the importance of pets in the therapy space:
